Choc chip cookies


125g butter chopped
100g firmly packed brown sugar
1 egg beaten lightly
225g self-raising flour
20g rolled oats (porridge)
80g chopped seeded dates (optional)
60g chopped pecans, toasted (optional)
100g dark/milk chocolate bits (200g nicer)


     Beat butter, sugar and egg in small bowl with electric mixer until smooth. Stir in remaining ingredients; mix well. Roll tablespoon size of mixture into balls, place about 5cm apart on greased oven trays, flatten slightly with a fork. Bake in moderate oven about 15 minutes or until browned. Stand for 5 minutes before lifting onto wire rack to cool.
